Amalfi Coast photoshoot

Not every beautiful moment on the Amalfi Coast is a wedding. Many couples come here to celebrate an engagement, a honeymoon or an anniversary – or to ask the big question – and want photographs that feel as natural as the day itself. That is exactly how I like to work.

A photoshoot, not a photo studio

I have photographed couples on this coast for more than twenty years, almost always at weddings. A photoshoot works the same way, only without the guests: we walk, you talk, you laugh, and I photograph what happens between you. I give you a little direction when it helps – where to stand for the light, where the view opens up – but I never ask you to hold a pose for minutes on end.

The result is a set of photos that look like you, in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Most of the images on this page come from weddings, because that is most of my work, but the places, the light and the way I photograph are the same for a couples session.

Who a photoshoot is for

There is no single reason to book a photoshoot on the Amalfi Coast. These are the ones I hear most often:

  • Engagement and pre-wedding photos – a relaxed session before your wedding, which is also a good way for us to get to know each other
  • Honeymoon photos – a few hours to remember the trip, without one of you always behind the camera
  • Proposals – you ask, I photograph the moment and the celebration afterwards
  • Anniversaries and vow renewals – years later, in the place where it all began
  • Couples on holiday – no special occasion needed, just the two of you and the coast

Where to have your photoshoot

Positano is the classic choice: the pastel houses stacked on the cliff, the Church of the Assunta with its tiled dome, the beach and the little lanes in between. If that is the picture you have in your head, see my page on a Positano photoshoot.

Ravello

Sorrento is the easiest place to start if you are staying on the peninsula. The old town, its back streets, the terraces over the Gulf of Naples and Marina Grande all photograph beautifully, and you have the whole coast within reach. More on my page about a Sorrento photoshoot.

Ravello, high on the hill in the middle of the coast, is quieter and greener, with gardens and wide views over the sea. It is a lovely choice for couples who want something a little less busy than Positano.

Proposal photos on the Amalfi Coast

A proposal is the one photoshoot where one of you should not know about it. You tell me the place and the moment, I arrive before you and wait out of sight, and I photograph the question, the answer and the minutes after – which are often the best photos of all. Afterwards we can take a few relaxed portraits of the two of you, now engaged.

Positano is the place most people ask about for a proposal, but a quiet terrace in Sorrento or a garden in Ravello can be just as beautiful – and a lot calmer. Tell me what you have in mind and I will help you choose a spot where the moment can be private, even on a busy day.

Light, time of day and season

The light decides almost everything on the Amalfi Coast. The hour before sunset is the most beautiful time of day here: the sky turns gold, the houses glow, and the heat of the day is gone. Early morning is the other good choice, when the light is soft and the lanes and beaches are almost empty.

Spring and autumn are perfect for a photoshoot, and summer works too if we avoid the middle of the day. In every season, the coast is photogenic – not only in summer.

What to expect

Sessions can be short or longer, depending on what you have in mind – a quick walk in one place, or a longer session that moves between two spots, perhaps finishing by the sea at sunset. A boat trip along the coast is another beautiful option, and seen from the water the coast looks more romantic than ever.

Kind words

From couples I have photographed

I found Adamo on a Google search and I am so pleased I did… the photos captured our daughter’s small intimate wedding in Sorrento perfectly and we have memories to cherish forever in his photos
Sally Aris · Sorrento (the reviewer’s daughter’s wedding)
Having been recommended Adamo by a friend we booked him for our wedding in Sorrento. He and his team were absolutely amazing! Adamo was so professional, personal and his way he captured our special day in photos and on film was exactly what we wanted. All of our guests were impressed with his manner, humour and how he and his team interacted with us all. I cannot recommend him highly enough for capturing your wedding/event, he truly is great at his profession.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How long is an Amalfi Coast photoshoot?

Sessions can be short or longer, depending on what you have in mind – from a walk in one place to a longer session in two locations. Tell me your idea and I will suggest what works best.

What is the best time of day for a photoshoot?

The hour before sunset, when the light turns gold and the heat has gone. Early morning is the other good option, with soft light and far fewer people around.

Can you photograph a surprise proposal?

Yes. You tell me where and when, I wait out of sight, and I photograph the question, the answer and the celebration afterwards, followed by a few portraits of the two of you.

Do we need to be getting married to book a photoshoot?

Not at all. Many couples book a session for an engagement, a honeymoon, an anniversary or simply because they are on holiday on the coast.

How much does a photoshoot cost?

It depends on the length of the session and the location. Send me your date and your idea, and I will send you my information package with the options.
